BUSY BUSY

I just wanted to put a quick post out to say that I have been busy...lately i've been working on loads of new stuff that (frustratingly) I can't say too much about, simply because nothing I've worked on lately has been for my own brand. Above is a sneak peak of a brand new light shade :) I'm sure in the next few months I will be posting some detailed post about new products.

LAST MINUTE PREPERATIONS

Thanks to BA throwing my case around a little bit more than I expected, I'm having to do a last minute spray touch up in the hotel room. Thanks to jessy for setting up the spray booth.

100% DESIGN - NEW PRODUCTS

With only 2 weeks until the show it's getting manic in the workshop trying to get new prototypes ready. Here's a sneak peak/clue of what you may see me launching. I say "may" because I'm not big time (yet!) and my stand is only small, so trying to decide what products to put on the stand without over crowding is becoming a difficult one.

If your visiting LONDON in the next few weeks be sure to come along and check out my work. I'll be launching at least one new product and showcasing some of the equally as important existing ones too:

Stand K119

PARIS

Seletti,Seletti,Paris,Maison Et Objet,John Green,Pantone,Wallstore
A few snaps from Paris last month at Maison Et Objet. I took a quick flight out there for the launch of the Pantone Wallstore on the Seletti stand. Although it's only been 6 months since I was prototyping it back in summer it seems to have been forever. This was my first time to visit Maison. One word = M A S S I V E.

old pics

I've just finished a search through some old uni images for some pics of the stable and stumbled across some pics that I thought, if I had the blog back then, I would have probably put them on.

1. a pic of the original rockingstool (against a graphic background), before it had been exhibited at the graduate show and I found people didn't have a clue how to sit on it.
2. the beginnings of "experiments in plywood" a 1:10 scale range of bent ply furniture, including embrace, stable and the rockingstool as part of my 3rd yr final project.
3. Jess showing the strength of the rockingstool in it's cantilever position. I think the way this version of the rockingstool flexes is brilliant, but it would probably kill anybody that eat's well. hense the development.
4. The stable being laminated and manipulated once it has been removed from the former "has anyone seen the small spring clamps?...I can't find them anywhere".

the box

john_green_embrace_box_spinning
today i'm looking to order the first batch of my boxes in preperation for the first batch of embraces arriving. Here you can see the prototypes that I made for 100%. As seen as though each box cost me a small fortune and I spent god knows how much time exposing and aligning screens I thought they were more than worthy of a quick blog.

embrace jigs...again!

Now things are getting serious. I've been working through the night to put this beast together. Now that embrace has been developed and I know the dimensions are right, I've gone for it and made a solid Jig. After hours and hours of hammering late night in the residency I'm about to press the first embrace today..on a bank holiday monday, cheers!

PANTONE wallstore's

Yesterday I bent up all the wallstores by hand and dropped them off at the powder coaters in preparation for 100%. I'm going to upload a video of that homemade jig in action soon/when i have the time. You will be amazed!.

Pantone Wallstore

The new wallstore, designed to be used as a magnetic notice board and a storage space for magazines, post, keep sakes etc...

The pantone wallstore will be available in a variety of pantone referenced colours.

The idea goes out to W2 this week so lets see what they say!

Here's the result for day one at the beach, a pewter coster, just a quick mess around, and the first real experiment with the material. The coaster was supposed to look like a nice industrial object that when turned over revealed an imprint of the beach. But, I didn't get the look I was hoping for so stand by for the results of a new product from day 4 at the beach. (don't worry I have the results already, but I'm just too busy at the moment to upload them)

Top 2 images show the coaster freshly cast at the beach, the last image shows it after I had a play withit on the lathe.

Pewter

in true max lamb style, me and designer/friend Jason hit the beach for day 1 of our pewter designing for the V&A design comp.

As we were just testing the whole process today, come back soon for day 2.

Designing with waste

Designing with waste product no_2. Here's another product that comes from those wasteful center's of the rockingstool. I absolutely LOVE this, it makes me smile everytime, but it seems to have an impact like marmite, some people really don't like this, but others LOVE it.

The letters are CNC cut from 18mm birch faced ply and the clock is made up of 2 sheets of 18mm ply with an acrylic centre. The hands are birch veneer. There are a few these knocking around in the studio, so if you want your very own limited edition you know who to call. This clock looks great even without the letters, minimal.

Toast

A sample of the cut sheet for the new rockingstool prototype. Stronger and more robust is the plan, although I think its beginning to look a little bit like a few pieces of toast.......anyway..........keep posted for more development of the rockingstool over the next few weeks.

Back to Work - YSJU Originate Residency

My first day in my 12 month residency program at YSJU. I'm very pleased to have been selected for the residency (although I am the guinea pig). My plans are to spend some time refining and developing some of the more popular (award winning) university products that I designed, so that they are ready for the shops. This means that all of you that have been nagging to own your embrace, your dream will shortly be within your reach :).

In the new year I will then be taking advantage of everything that has been given to me and I will be getting stuck in and developing some new products as well as working on various collaborations, one of which is currently underway with snowhome and I'm very excited about.
